Merton Council have voluntarily withdrawn the order to implement the Camp Road CPZ. This was announced in advance of the Court Hearing of Massive's application (see below) which was due to take place on 4th July.

Feb 06 : Merton Council publish plans for Camp Road CPZ

The Council have suspended the Camp Road CPZ works pending a challenge to the legality of the Council's consultation procedure by the licensees of the Fox and Grapes in Camp Road, Massive Limited; the recent letter from the Council referring to the "rescheduling" of the works omits to mention this or that the works are now indefinitely on hold following the determination of the court case against the Council. The Council have been asked to clear away signs and portable barriers left behind when the work was abruptly terminated early on Monday morning after Massive gave notice of its application which was issued out of the High Court of Justice, Administrative Court on Wednesday 15th February. Further details will be posted in due course. In the meantime the WCWRA publishes its letter to the Council of 3rd December 2005 which esssentially makes the point at the heart of Massive's application as to the unfairness of the Council's switching of CPZ proposals during the consultation process without giving local residents their say on the "one-road" CPZ new scheme.

Massive has led the campaign, which is being supported by many other significant local businesses in
Wimbledon Village. These companies are concerned that the council's plans amount to a serious assault on the business viability of the village and specific businesses such as The Fox and Grapes. The businesses fear that the introduction of the single CPZ is merely a first attempt to steam roller CPZs right across the common. The local businesses believe that the Council has acted in a cavalier and undemocratic manner.

Jan 06 : Merton Council publish plans for Camp Road CPZ

Proposals published in Guardian and on local lampposts.

December 05 : Merton Council to implement CPZ in Camp Road and extensive double lines in Quadrant

At a meeting at 7.15pm on 6th December at the Civic Centre, Morden, the Cabinet Street Committee of Merton Council ratified the following proposal:

  • A controlled parking zone (CPZ) for Camp Road operating Mon-Fri 8.30am-6.30pm (all other roads in the area will remain uncontrolled)

  • Extensive double-yellow lines including the various junctions and bends in the area

Despite strong representation by WCWRA committee, local residents and businesses at the meeting, the committee ignored all points and concerns raised.

These parking restrictions are due to be implemented in February/March 2006.

Sep 05 : Merton Council's CPZ and Yellow Line Proposals

The council has sent out a consultation letter setting out their plans for parking in the WCWRA area.
