WCWRA Yellow Line Comments from Cllr Tariq Ahmad

Dear Mr Hilton

RE: CAMP ROAD
I believe it was right to inform you directly that I have earlier this week signed the decision paper on Camp Road.
In brief, I have accepted the Street Management Advisory Committee recommendations to reject the proposals for double yellow lines on Camp Road. I have however made one additional amendment, which is that I have also rejected the proposals for double yellow lines on Chester Road as I believe these are unnecessary.
In reaching my decision, I have reflected long and hard on all the representations that have been made and of course my own view from visiting the site with colleagues and officers on number of occasions and indeed at varying times to assess the overall impact of the proposed scheme.
Whilst there have been criticisms levelled at the Council, I do believe that in the processes we have followed since May 2006, we have demonstrated the administration’s commitment to ensure that all the representations we received were firstly fully documented and more importantly debated in a transparent and open fashion. There may be some who may feel we could have done more, but let me assure you that I myself as Cabinet Member along with other colleagues, including ward members, have spent a considerable amount of time in assessing these proposals. Moreover, as I have said throughout this process that we needed to follow defined procedure and let this consultation run its course despite what were at time severe criticisms of our approach. Notwithstanding this I have always retained an open mind on the proposals and have listened carefully to all the arguments away from what was at times the emotive tone of certain exchanges.
Whilst I accept this decision may not be the favoured outcome for some I do believe in my opinion it is the right one.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank you all for your active engagement in this process and for all your contributions. I believe that as a council we have shown that we do listen and resident views do count in the decisions that are taken.
 Kind Regards
